Me and Joel made it all the
way up the next incline with no problems. I waited at the turn-off for him and then
we headed down the hill to where the main ridge line continues all the way to Flagpole
Knob.
Unfortunately, a couple
people got sideways coming up the hill and needed to get winched back onto the trail.
It took quite a while and I expect it was not an easy job, given how hard it was
just to maintain traction to move, never mind to anchor a winch vehicle!
Jim, Carl and everybody
worked to get through that, then caught up with us. Joel and I were waiting at what
was once a fair-sized obstacle. So much so that a bypass was cut through the
woods. Today it was barely recognizable and the bypass was the risky path, all icy
and frozen. Everybody came down the obstacle and the group headed up the ridge line.
What a change in the conditions simply by moving into the sunshine!
The sun was shining, there
was no wind, and the air was clear. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood...
