This is a little like the moment
in the movie "The Wizard of Oz" when it goes from Black & White
to Color... Every picture taken
in the morning was so
monochromatic they could be black & white - but trust me - they
are color images. With the snow still coming down,
there was little color to record. Once the sun came out
and the sky cleared, that all changed!
I had not idea where I would go,
but I knew I wanted to get some elevation so I could catch the
late afternoon sun and sunset. But on the way out of my
neighborhood, there were a number of things that caught my
eye...
Next I decided to take the new
road that connects to the highway exchange that is under
construction. There I found some elevation for the views
and sun... The climb up through unbroken, 16" deep snow
was satisfying - a little dose of winter 4-Wheeling! Once
at the top, I spent about an hour shooting.
The intersection of Sunset Beach
and North Greystone may be seen from this vantage point.
While I waited for the sun to get
to the horizon I photographed the shifting snow drifts.
There was no doubt about it - the
afternoon was a lot different from the morning!
Finally, the sun reached the
horizon. It had been some time since I photographed the
sunset. It reminded me of the first time I did it, way
back in about 1972, with a borrowed Soligor zoom...
With the sunset, I left my perch
the way I came and went back to the neighborhood. The
streetlights were just coming on. A very full day!
