Get Away...

The day off for the Fourth of July fell on a Friday this year.  Mike suggested we take a ride down to a place he'd found - Mike Knob, near Carpenter Run.  No idea why he found that interesting, but it was near the Cranberry Wilderness and other generally remote areas so it sounded like a good chance to make some images and get some time in the quiet of the woods.

I decided to herd up all the film cameras that had unfinished film in them and together with an array of lenses, shoot some film on this trip.  I also brought my digital camera because it's what I usually use these days and I was uncomfortable with the idea of leaving it behind.

I picked up Mike at 6:35 AM and we hit the road.  Our first stop was in Bridgeport to get some snacks and drinks for the trip.  Then we hit the highway and soon came to Route 19 where we took the exit.  At the junction of Routes 41 and 55, we encountered this truck.

We stopped in Craigsville to get fuel.  I also bought a couple rolls of film.  Pretty soon we came to the Crupperneck Bend Geocache.

Just before Fenwick, we came to a turn-out for some fishing spots on the Cherry River.  We stopped and made a few images of the stream.

We stopped along the way at an outdoor outfitter who told us the fire tower that used to be on Mike Knob was now on top of the fire station in Richwood.

So when we got to Richwood we found it, and nearby a spot on White Ave to take a picture of the Jeep in its element.

From there I drove to the trail head for the hike to Mike Knob.  But we decided against it because there are bears in the area and we were not outfitted to deal with bears.

We went to the Glades hoping to find some photo opportunities.  We were not disappointed.

We stopped in Marlinton for lunch.  I parked and fed the parking meter 10 cents and one of the people nearby told me I didn't have to because they didn't have a meter reader anymore!  We went to French's Diner and had greasy burgers and onion rings.  It was great!

Then we drove up 219 and came upon this Country store.
