Meadow Knob

< Back to Bump in the Road...

Finally we broke through to Meadow Knob.   It is the last knob before the final climb to Flagpole Knob.  The last climb out to the clearing was interesting, as I had expected, but everyone made it up without any trouble.   I sat and watched as each vehicle in turn came up out of the woods onto the plain.  I could see the relief in the faces of many as they got a final glimpse of daylight and some relief from the darkness of the last stretch of trail.

Soon, we had a large group of vehicles lined up on Meadow Knob, just in time to see the last minutes of sunshine dappling the mountains around us.

The air had gotten very cold but the visibility was spectacular.  It was beautiful up there, and I was very happy we had reached that point, though not happy that we had run into the trouble on the hill behind us.  We still had a couple little hills to get over but I was expecting them to be more traveled than the trail behind us, so did not expect much trouble.

After everyone had taken a look around, we started moving again.  There was a lot more snow up here, and the trail had deeper ruts and snow on both sides.  There was actually some pretty tough going but because it was not as hilly and because there was no longer anyplace to fall to, and nothing much to hit, we could move faster and keep the momentum in our favor.  We went up and down a few little hills with some ice but nobody got stuck, at least this far...
