The bulb warning light came on and sure enough, one of the headlights (low beam) was out.  I contemplated the SilverStar bulbs that would give a blue tint to the lights but instead saved myself some change and got a basic replacement lamp, the GE H7-55 bulb for less than half the cost.  If I had gone for the SilverStars, it would have cost me nearly $100 because I would have had to change out all four bulbs.  Not on this rainy night!

Done and over for a fraction of that!  I put a new spare in the console for later...

I changed the turn signals to use the Sylvania Silverstar Signal lamps.  They're coated with silver reflective material that hides the fact that they're orange until they're turned on.  Once on, they glow orange like regular signal lamps.  It was just a small change to integrate the lighting colors with the paint color.

After 15 months one of the lamps burned out.  This time I decided to try the Silverstar lamps.  I probably should have read the package before I committed because the small print on the back says "SYLVANIA Silverstar lamps are engineered to achieve higher performance, which results in product life that is less than standard lamps."  Costs more, dies sooner.  Such a deal.

Notwithstanding the value proposition, I installed the lamps.  Oh what fun that was!  one side was relatively easy, though the cavities are small, deep, and almost impossible to see.  The long story short is that I was able to install the four lamps in less than an hour without much of my customary vernacular.  I spent another couple minutes fine-tuning the lamp alignment so that they would be aimed properly.

They are a little less yellow, but certainly would not be mistaken for HID's.  It's hard to say if they're brighter or not. 

 

My sense is they're probably somewhat brighter, but it's not earth shattering.  Still, I am happy with them, and it will be interesting to see how long they last.  I am keeping the receipt so I can claim on the guarantee if necessary.

One of the lamps burned out.  I opted to replace all four, saving the three good ones in case I need one in an emergency.
